Client Spotlight: globalFEST

“Each group at Globalfest was navigating between preservation and adaptation, as well as between home and away. And this year, nearly all of them did it with a dance beat — not with the globe-flattening four-on-the-floor of electronic dance music, but with cultural keepsakes from particular places.” – The New York Times on this year’s globalFEST concert, January 8, 2017.

A concert that began as a response to the events of September 11th, globalFEST has grown in to a social touchstone. The Fest gives instant exposure to world music from different countries, but also opens conversations about cultures, compassion, principles and beliefs. Along with this yearly show in New York City, globalFEST has also grown in to a exceptional non-profit service organization for the performing arts field with a single goal: expanding cultural diplomacy and understanding through open conversation and exchange.

Says Shanta Thake, globalFEST co-founder, “In this highly divided and divisive climate we are living in in the United States, the work of globalFEST, to build bridges, not walls, is more important than ever. These connections are what make the artists we work with so powerful.”

This year’s show, on January 8th at Webster Hall in New York City, featured artists that ranged from “African soul and jazz, Eastern European electronica and Argentine tango to Korean pop, while also finding room for some traditional American musical forms.” A multitude of acts took over all three floors of Webster Hall to celebrate community, culture and love. To learn more about globalFEST, please visit their website here
